I just whipped up this prehistoric fellow over at the scribbler. A primitive hare. A cobwebby doodle…
Want to make one? The scribbler allows you to create a “generative illustration” (I prefer doodle to “generative illustration”, but maybe I’m too old school) based on your drawing. And you can save it afterward by following the instructions on the left hand side of the screen.

Why did I draw a funky petroglyphic hare? No idea… It’s not even rabbit, rabbit time of the month!

This evocative image, created by Gene Aker, a friend and former colleague in Santa Fe, transforms a lonely road in Lamy, New Mexico into a quasi-inebriated dreamscape. Or maybe a stormy sunset when the skies are tinted with soot from forest fires? Gene explains how he created the image: “shot old school. 5×7 Korona camera (100 years old). Hp5 sheet film, D76 developer… I selenium toned the print. Then when I scanned it, I hit the sepia button — then cranked up the shadows to darken. Everything digital is a lie! but the print looks pretty cool–a 5×7 contact print.”

Stumbled across this dramatic bridge photograph on Reddit this afternoon. Spectacular!

Somebody with a bit too much time on their hands mashed up a PowerPoint presentation with a slew of photos garnered from the web during the past year. These are a few of my favorites. Apparently they were all voted on by someone somewhere, but that information had been expunged by the time it trickled down to me via a local friend. Some duds (cute kittens, etc.) but in general, this is a fun way to dally away a couple of minutes. If you’re interested, download the Top Photos of 2008 pps file and enjoy.
