Brainstorming a clever, minimalist logo, and these unique, creative logos appeared out of the ether. Maybe they’ll inspire me…

Chilean Quake Likely Shifted Earth’s Axis

The earthquake that killed more than 700 people in Chile on Feb. 27 probably shifted the Earth’s axis and shortened the day, a National Aeronautics and Space Administration scientist said.

Still learning the ropes on my new Mac. Good news is that the transition learning curve from PC-to-Mac hasn’t been bad at all! And when I get stumped I can usually find the help I need quickly and painlessly via Google. Case in point…

Antique Photo of Essex, New York

Main Street, Essex, New York
Main Street, Essex, New York (Photograph via ebay.com )

It never ceases to amaze me how many antique photos and postcards of Historic Essex make it onto eBay. This old photo of Main Street is the most recent example. I should have long ago set up a flickr gallery to collect them. This postcard appears to be looking north with the Essex Inn on the left hand side in the foreground. If you’re feeling like you just can’t live without it, you can find it for sale on eBay (item 260559292272 end time Mar-04-10 05:12:54 PST).

Eric Chase Anderson: The Life Eclectic

“We’re not suggesting that Eric Chase Anderson is a tad, well, quirky, but consider this: He plastic-wraps his books. With library covers. That he specially orders. From Wisconsin.”

via nytimes.com

Just stumbled across this former undergrad classmate who I knew mostly through The Georgetown Journal, the literary arts mag. A quick poke around online hasn’t shown me anything more, but I’m certain he’s up to something creative. Any leads on the whereabouts and/or doings of Eric Chase Anderson?

What’s on Your Desk This Morning?

I meant to post this earlier. In the mean time morning’s somehow, almost imperceptibly, slipped into afternoon. So, what’s on your desk this afternoon?

Quieting the Lizard Brain

“How can I explain the never-ending irrationality of human behavior? We say we want one thing, then we do another. We say we want to be successful but we sabotage the job interview… The amygdala isn’t going away. Your lizard brain is here to stay, and your job is to figure out how to quiet it and ignore it.” ~ Seth Godin

Wonder. Full of… Thanks to @BoingBoing for making the other parts of my day so much better, so much easier to understand. TGIF! Er, Wednesday?

Old Brick Store

Bumped into Carrie MacKillop at the Old Brick Store in Charlotte, Vermont this morning. She’s a firecracker! And… she’s interested in the Essex Inn project. Exciting news, and it means that there are more and more neat folks coming together to try and save the Essex Inn.

Anybody else have a great plan for how to save the Essex Inn? How to turn this handsome, historic property into the heart and soul of Essex?

Rosslyn Dockhouse in November

Day actually became colorful a little later on, but these tones were almost richer than the bright blues and yellows of high noon. Any idea what’s missing from this photo?Rosslyn dockhouse

Docks and boat hoist are in. Doug and I spent the better part of Sunday morning seeing to that awkward task. And then changing out the moorings for winter. And neither of us fell into the drink!

But docks, boat hoist and moorings aren’t the only missing pieces of this puzzle…
